OUR IMPACT

2023

TAPPING INTO POTENTIAL

A Letter From the Chief Executive Officer

Dear colleagues,

Not only can prowess be defined as the showing of skill in a particular activity, but it also encompasses a sense of fearlessness, confidence, determination and grit. Throughout 2023, our team at Capital Area Michigan Works! has exemplified these qualities, enabling us to extend our impact in unique ways.

In a world marked by constant evolution, the key to success lies in our ability to adapt and harness the vast potential that surrounds us. As we’ve started to come out the other side of the COVID-19 pandemic, we not only feel like we’ve found our stride but also summoned the confidence to step beyond our comfort zones and uncover new solutions.

We ushered in a new age of engagement. We welcomed back the in-person MiCareerQuest Capital Area event, connecting school-age youth with future career opportunities. Our dynamic advertising campaign unfolded across multiple channels, resonating with individuals during their daily commute and even while they scrolled through social media on platforms like Facebook and LinkedIn. Additionally, we proudly introduced the inaugural “Women In Workforce” podcast, which further supports our overall commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging. Each episode shines a spotlight on the significant contributions of women in leadership positions within the capital area’s workforce.

In our pursuit of progress, we actively embraced new experiences, nurtured budding talent, and pioneered transformative innovations that directly impacted the businesses and job seekers within our region. We recognized the untapped potential of our community and, more importantly, channeled it to create transformation.

With gratitude,

Carrie Rosingana
Chief Executive Officer

PROGRAMS

PARTICIPANTS

ON-SITE PARTNERS

We couldn’t have thrived this year without the dynamic partnerships that fueled progress throughout the capital area. We collaborated with a robust network of regional professionals, working together to advance workforce and economic development.

We’ve amplified the impact of our programs to address the needs of our community members. Job seekers received modernized training, a variety of career development resources, personalized support and a front-row seat to the best opportunities this year. On the employer side, we enhanced our services to cater to their distinctive workforce needs and connect them with new talent through hiring events, apprenticeships and job postings, as well as providing strategies to retain existing employees.

Our collaborative efforts didn’t end there. We brought together 72 local employers to educate 1,427 students from Clinton and Ingham County schools about career opportunities during MiCareerQuest Capital Area.

Students explored 96 occupations across four sectors: manufacturing and engineering; business, IT, art and communication; healthcare and human services; and natural resources and agriscience.

We pride ourselves on building meaningful relationships between employers and job seekers, even at an early age. This year’s annual report is a reflection of the strength of these partnerships, showcasing that a shared vision and determination have propelled us to new heights.

Together, we tapped into the region’s potential, creating opportunities and shaping a brighter future.

JOBS FILLED

$4M+

invested in our region’s businesses through the Going PRO Talent Fund.

At the heart of our work at Capital Area Michigan Works! lies a commitment to empower the community. The support we provide our region’s employers, businesses and job seekers is more than just a service — it’s a catalyst for growth and a bridge to success.

This year, our Business Services Team (BST) served 597 businesses across Ingham, Eaton and Clinton counties, marking a substantial increase compared to the previous year when we served nearly half that number. Additionally, the BST and the Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO) jointly invested over $4 million in our region’s businesses through the Going PRO Talent Fund, matching the previous year’s record-setting investment.

We see the potential in our employers and ensure each one has the tools, resources and opportunities they need to thrive. Our team’s dedicated efforts and perseverance create positive outcomes, including award-winning recognition at the state level.

Our regional employer partnership with Medilodge led to their recognition as the statewide Michigan Works! Association Employer of the Year — an award acknowledging exceptional dedication that goes above and beyond, recognizing continuous contributions to local job placement and a commitment to fostering education to sustain a skilled workforce. As a result of the partnership between the Capital Area Michigan Works! team and MediLodge’s Talent Acquisition Project Director, the company received Going PRO Talent Fund awards for all 50 of its locations statewide, creating over 1,300 positions filled last program year.

Tapping into our team’s expertise.

The unwavering dedication and expertise of our exceptional team transformed potential into progress. Increasing job placements and developing innovative programs are not just numbers — they represent lives changed and businesses strengthened.

We’re committed to empowering the community, and it all begins with our team.

Our team is our greatest asset, and we’re celebrating not just who they are today but the future we’ll shape together. Each member enhances our mission and is deeply invested in the positive impact we have the potential to achieve. Together, the team isn’t just thriving, but growing too.

We welcomed three brand-new positions this year. Each role was meticulously created to drive efforts toward supporting a modern workforce including two Special Projects Liaison positions to support Workforce Intelligence Network and Early Childhood Investment Corporation grants, as well as a Youth Program Liaison position. Our team’s expanding expertise, bolstered by a commitment to diversify our funding sources, empowers us to both investigate and actively tackle the obstacles that individuals face when venturing into the workforce.

We’re committed to supporting the staff positions to leverage other existing workforce programs, while simultaneously demonstrating our willingness to explore new solutions and embrace change. These grants have afforded us the opportunity to innovate and drive meaningful purposes.
